Our mission statement is known as the "Great Commission", that the resurrected Jesus gave His followers before He ascended into heaven: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:19-20).  Our vision statement is derived from this: "Serving Jesus by showing His love - in our community and throughout the world!"

Our beliefs: The intent here is not to lay out a systematic theology, but to provide a brief summary; anyone with specific questions or concerns is referred to the "contact us" tab, which provides both email address and telephone number.
Our belief system is God-centered, specifically, CHRIST centered.  We believe that Jesus Christ is the ultimate revelation of almighty God; He is the Son of God, fully God and fully human.  He lived a sinless life, performed many miraculous deeds, and taught His followers - of all ages - about the Kingdom of God.  Jesus came to this earth to rescue all humanity from our own sins; He died a cruel, shameful death by being nailed to a cross.  The cross looked like it was a total defeat for Jesus, but THIS is where all enemies of God's Creation were defeated: sin, all the dark powers of evil, and DEATH itself!  When Jesus died, He was placed in a tomb; on the third day, He rose from the dead, and He lives forever as our Savior and Redeemer; He sits at the right-hand of His Father, which means that Jesus Christ is NOW Lord of all Creation!  All things are now His, and under His control.  It doesn't always look like this is true; this world in which we live is STILL fallen, human sin still abounds.  Everyone still dies, and it certainly seems that death has the final word.  However, the LOVE of God through Jesus Christ our Lord has the last word; one day, death and sin will be no more!  One day, this same Jesus will return to this earth; He will right all wrongs, and restore all things.  Those who belong to Him by faith will inherit everlasting life!  Those who are wicked, who dehumanize themselves and others, will face His judgment, and everlasting death!  However, Jesus is not a cosmic bully; His love for all humanity is beyond our ability to comprehend!  Even now, Jesus is waiting, beckoning you to come to Him by faith: "...let the one who is thirsty (for God's presence) come; let the one who desires take the water of life (a metaphor for Jesus Himself, who gives everlasting life) without price" (Revelation 22:17, with parenthetical asides added).  Jesus is the living Word of God; the Holy Scriptures are His written Word.

We believe that the words of Scripture are the infallible Word of God, and they are the only source of authority for His Church; through the words of Scripture, the Holy Spirit speaks!  Fear now; we DON'T believe the Scriptures are to be used as a "hammer" to "punish" anyone!  Instead, we believe the words of Scripture reveal the love and grace of God, through Jesus Christ; we seek to demonstrate this love and grace as we live, and as we interact with everyone, in this world.

We are persuaded that Jesus loves EVERYONE; He tells His followers to love everyone too - including those who hate us, and who persecute us!  Jesus loves all humanity so much, that He left heaven, took on human flesh - became a human being! - and died to atone for our sins against God, and our fellow human beings.  He rose from the dead because He is GOD, and death could not hold Him - nor will it hold those who belong to Him, by faith.  We are saved from our sins - that is we come to belong to Jesus - by God's grace (UNEARNED favor), through faith in Jesus Christ.  Romans 10:9 give a succinct summary of how to do this: "...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord (God), and believe in your heart (the center of your being; your mind, will, inner self) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

It doesn't matter what you have done in the past; it doesn't matter what you did last night, or even five minutes ago!  Everyone is welcome at Kelso Cumberland Presbyterian church!  ALL of us are sinners; NONE of us are perfect!  Jesus doesn't expect you to "clean up your act" before coming to Him - you come to Jesus, and He will transform your heart, soul, and mind!  Don't worry about meeting our (non-existent) "dress code" - feel free to come on in, just as you are.  Come and join us; praise and worship Jesus Christ with us.  He will forgive you for ALL sins and transgressions; whoever desires may come to Him!  We look forward to seeing you!  God bless and keep you all!
